    Through hardening, EN30B Round Bar is a through-hardening steel composed of 4.5% Nickel, Chromium, and Molybdenum, which can harden in very large sections to give strength exceeding 1550N/mm2. Air from the hardening temperature can achieve these strengths since it is highly hardenable. Typically, this steel is used in applications that require high tensile strength and where more drastic quenches would result in distortion or cracking, especially in intricately designed parts.     This material has a very low carbon content of 0.26 – 0.34 percent and a relatively low Mn content of 0.5 – 0.6 percent. Its chemical composition contains relatively little carbon. It has a high Chromium content of 1.1-1.4 %, which causes it to be heat treated to increase yield and tensile strength. To ensure flexibility in the core of the part and high heat treatment temperature capabilities, a high Nickel content of 3.90%-4.30% is present. The contents of P are reduced to 0.05%, and S is reduced to 0.05 % max as excess content of P and S can damage the quality of steel and cause the alloy steel to break at low-stress points.

    Heat Treatment Of EN30B Round Bar:

Please consult your heat treatment provider for full guidance on treating this 4 1/4% Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum alloy steel. In addition to the shape and size of each EN30 steel component, heat treatment temperatures, cooling rates, and soaking times will vary. Additionally, the type of furnace, quenching medium, and workpiece transfer facilities should be considered during the heat treatment.

        Typical Uses Of EN30B Round Bar

        Typically, EN30B is used to manufacture gears, shafts, high-duty bolts, high-duty spindles, and other parts demanding high strength, toughness, or wear resistance. This steel is shocked in the annealed condition to render machining possible. It must be heat treated as follows: harden in air (or oil for larger sections over 2½” diameters) from 810°C / 830°C. Temper, if desired, at a suitable temperature or exceeding 250°C.

        Forging:

        Slowly and uniformly heat to 1050°C. Cool slowly after forging.

        Stress Reliving

        Whenever the machining operations have been severe, it is recommended to stress-relieve EN30B alloy steel before finishing machining and hardening. Heat carefully to 630-650°C, then cool in the furnace or still air after heating it.

        Annealing

        630/650°C should be heated uniformly. In the furnace, soak well and cool slowly.

        Hardening:

        Oil can be used to quench, or air can be used to cool. Slowly heat to 650/700°C and soak thoroughly. Allow the component to be heated to the final hardening temperature of 830/850°C.

        Tempering:

        Heat each inch of total thickness uniformly and thoroughly at the selected tempering temperature.
