    Stainless Steel 420 Round Bars – Details

    Martensitic stainless steel 420 round bars are developed for primary forming in wrought products. AISI is the designation for 420. Its UNS number is S42000, and its British standard designation is 420S29. As a wrought martensitic stainless steel, it has lower ductility and higher electrical conductivity. In addition to its high hardness and increased strength, this alloy provides very good corrosion resistance. Both hardened and annealed alloys are magnetic. An annealed steel does not have the same corrosion resistance as a fully hardened steel.

    Packaging-

    CORROSION RESISTANCE:

    • A less resistant alloy than austenitic grades and ferritic alloys with 17% chromium
    • As a hardened material, it is resistant to the atmosphere, foods, fresh water, and mild acids
    • As a result of annealing, resistance is reduced
    • Smooth surfaces are best

    HEAT RESISTANCE

    • Mechanical properties will be reduced above the relevant tempering temperature
    • The scaling temperature is approximately 1202oF (650oC).

    MACHINABILITY

    • Chip buildup that is tough and stringy.
    • The process is similar to that of machining some high-carbon tool steels

    The welding process

    • Due to its air-hardening characteristics, it is not commonly welded.
    • After preheating to 300-400 degrees F, welding can be performed
    • Two hours of post-weld tempering at the temperature

    Working In The Heat

    • The temperature should gradually increase to 1400 degrees Fahrenheit, then 2000-2200 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • After furnace work, allow it to cool slowly to avoid cracking
    • To maintain a working temperature above 1600 degrees Fahrenheit, reheating is necessary.

    Working In The Cold

    • Hard work is only mildly tolerant.
    • Cracking will result from radical forming operations.

     Announcing

    • The annealing temperature should be between 1550-1650 F (843-900 C).
    • Cool the furnace slowly.

     A Temperament

    • Temperatures between 300 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit
    • For maximum hardness and corrosion resistance, air cooling is recommended.

    The Hardening Process

    • In heated oil, soak at 1850-1950 F to quench.

    Stainless Steel 420 Round bars Corrosion Resistance :

    • Under hardened conditions, grade 420 steels are resistant to fresh water, alkalis, air, foods and mild acids.
