    Carbon steel EN8 is a medium carbon and medium tensile steel that is hardened to improve strength over mild steel. In addition, EN8 carbon steel is readily machinable under any conditions.

    The EN8 standard is also known as the 080M40 standard. Medium carbon steel that is unalloyed. An EN8 steel has a medium strength, good tensile strength, and a good corrosion resistance. Shafts, stressed pins, studs, keys, etc. 1040 AISI.

    In general, EN8 steels are used in their untreated state as supplied. Induction processes can further surface-harden EN8 steels, resulting in components with enhanced wear resistance. The metallurgical structure of steel EN8 materials in their heat-treated forms is homogeneous, ensuring consistent machining properties.

    Heat treatment results may still be good on sections larger than 65mm, but a fall-off in mechanical properties will be evident toward the center of the bar. Larger sizes of EN8 steel materials should therefore be supplied in the untreated condition, and any heat treatment should be applied after initial stock removal. Towards the core, this should improve mechanical properties.

    Cold drawn or rolled forms are normally supplied.  EN8 is widely used for applications which require better properties than mild steel without justifying the cost of alloy steel. With flame or induction hardening, EN8 produces a good surface hardness and moderate wear resistance. Stocked in bar form, EN8 can be cut to your specifications. We can also cut flame-cut plates to your desired sizes and normalize them. EN8 plates can be ground on a surface or on a precision grinding machine.

    EN8M vs MS Material Differences.

    Compared to MS material, EN 8 M has a higher tensile strength. Material EN 8 M is suitable for high strength, while material MS is not suitable for high strength. There is a significant price difference between EN 8 M and MS materials. It is possible to use EN 8 M material instead of MS material, but MS material cannot be used instead of EN 8 material.

     

    EN8M & EN8D: What’s the difference.

    EN8M is a medium carbon steel that has been through-hardened. It is used to manufacture axles, shafts, gears, studs, bolts, etc., and is easily machinable. EN8D has enhanced wear resistance and is a carbon steel. By induction processes, it is a surface-hardened version of EN8M. General engineers and automobile components can benefit from it.

    EN8M or ENG is better.

    While EN9 has a lower wear rate in rotating parts than EN-8M, EN8M is an unalloyed medium carbon steel with rational tensile strength. EN8M is widely used for applications which needs better properties compared to mild steel but does not justify the costs of an alloy steel. EN9 is general engineering applications including blades for axes, knives, sickles as well as shafts, bushes, wood working drills, crankshafts, and screws.
