Table of Content

Wide Stock Of ASME SB164 2.4068 Hex/ Flat/ Square Bar In 3mm Thickness X 25mm Width As Per AMS 4675/4730/4731 Ex Mumbai

Available Monel 400  forms are seamless pipe, welded pipe, seamless tube, welded tube, bar, wire, sheet, plate, forgings, pipe fittings and flanges.

Due to the fact that Monel 400 or alloy 400 is cold-worked, the alloy has a high hardness, stiffness, and strength. Cold working the ASTM B164 UNS N04400 Bar Stock results in a higher level of mechanical stress, which in turn alters the alloy’s microstructure. In fact, the UNS N04400 Bright Bar is stronger because of its newer microstructure. Besides increasing strength, Monel 400 Square bar’s surface also becomes smoother as well.

Since it is a nickel copper alloy, the 2.4068 Alloy 400 Rod exhibits properties such as resistance to seawater and steam even at elevated temperatures since it is slightly magnetic at ambient temperature. Monel 400 Hex Bar is also resistant to salty and caustic solutions, so it is commonly used in industries such as chemical, oil, and marine engineering.

The Monel 400 Flat Bar exhibits a proportional decrease in ductility as its hardness and tensile strength increase. The ductility of Monel 400 Flat Bar may be an issue for some applications, whereas it is crucial for others. For instance, in engineering or structural applications, ductility is low because the material needs to be strong and able to withstand deformation. For such applications, Monel 400 Round Bar is recommended.

Solid solution alloys can be hardened by cold working, or by hot working followed by annealing into complex fabrications and welding.

In 1905, the alloy was introduced to the market for use in petroleum distillation tower internals, fasteners and fittings, pumps and valves.

Due to its spark-free nature, Monel 400 is used in the explosives, rocketry, and pulp and paper industries for process vessels, heat exchanger piping, and storage tanks of gasoline and potable water.

Aluminium ladders and aircraft skinned aircraft use the alloy’s high mechanical properties, ductility, and resistance to atmospheric corrosion as rivets.

The Nickel-Copper alloy Monel 400 is resistant to seawater, steam at high temperatures, as well as salt and caustic solutions.

As a nickel-copper alloy, Monel 400 resists corrosion in a wide range of media very well. It has excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and moderate to high strength. In addition to its excellent resistance to rapidly flowing brackish water or seawater, the alloy has excellent resistance to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when deaerated. The alloy is slightly magnetic at room temperature. Chemical, oil, and marine industries commonly use Monel 400.

There are multiple variations of Monel alloys, starting with Monel 400, which contains at least 63% nickel, between 29% and 34% copper, between 2% and 2.5% iron, and between 1.5% and 2% manganese. The silicon content in Monel 405 is 0.5%, while the aluminum content in Monel K-500 is 2.3% to 3.15 percent and the titanium content is 0.35 to 0.85%. Aside from their resistance to acid and alkalis attacks, these and other variations are also highly regarded for their mechanical strength and ductility.

Compared to a naturally occurring nickel ore in Ontario, Canada, Monel 400 contains the same amount of nickel and copper. It has high strength and can only be hardened by cold work. Since Monel 400 is resistant to corrosion, it is often used in marine and chemical applications.

    Why Monel 400?

In industries where corrosion resistance is critical, Monel 400 (also known as alloy 400) is an attractive option.

Steam, seawater, and highly caustic solutions such as sulfuric, hydrochloric, and hydrofluoric acids can all be deaerated with Monel 400. In addition to being extremely weldable, it can withstand large amounts of weight and pressure. With a melting point of 2370° – 2460° F, products can be used at temperatures up to 1000° C.

and has outstanding mechanical properties at subzero temperatures.

Featuring excellent ductility and thermal conductivity, Monel 400 is excellent for heavy-duty applications that require a high melting point and toughness under harsh conditions.

    Monel 400 Characteristics

    • Designed to withstand corrosion in a wide range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to nonoxidizing mineral acids, salts, and alkalis.
    • It shows better resistance to reducing media than oxidizing media, but it is more resistant to nickel under reducing conditions than copper under oxidizing conditions.
    • Mechanical properties are good from subzero temperatures up to 480C.
    • It is resistant to sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids, but aeration increases corrosion rates. Hydrochloric acid can also be handled, but oxidizing salts will accelerate corrosion.
    • There is good resistance to neutral, alkaline, and acid salts, but poor resistance to oxidizing acid salts such as ferric chloride.
    • The material has excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking caused by chloride ions.

Features of Monel 400 round bar:

    • Magnetic capability.
    • Corrosion and alkaline resistance are excellent.
    • Strong thermal conductivity.Exceptional strength at a wide range of temperatures.

    1. Monel 400 Sheet and Plate:
Typically, these cylinders of Monel 400 are used in a variety of applications, such as equipment used in the marine and chemical processing industries.
    2. Monel 400 Pipe and Tube:
The hollow structures are made from Monel 400 and are commonly used both in the oil and gas industry, as well as in applications involving seawater.
    3. Monel 400 Bar and Rod:
It is a solid piece of Monel 400 that can often be found in marine and chemical processing applications as well as in the manufacture of electrical and electronic components.
    4. Monel 400 Wire:
A thin, flexible wire made of a material known as Monel 400, which is commonly used in the electrical and electronic industry, can be found here.
    5. Monel 400 Forgings:
It is composed of specially-shaped pieces of Monel 400 that are formed through the use of a forging process, which makes them stronger and more durable than other forms of Monel 400.

I believe it is fair to say that the specific type of Monel 400 that will be used in a particular application will depend on the properties that are required for that application as well as the manufacturing process that is being used for it.

    Monel 400 Applications

Heat exchangers, chemical plant equipment, and boiler feeders require Monel 400, which is ideal for trolling wire due to its seawater resistance. Monel 400 is ideal in wire or rod form. Due to its toughness, it is well suited for use in nuclear power plants, mining, cement, and the oil and gas industry.

    Industrial applications include:

    • Crude petroleum stills
    • Sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid alkylation plants
    • Deaerating heaters
    • Gasoline and freshwater tanks
    • Chemical and hydrocarbon processing equipment
    • Chlorinated solvents
    • Brine heaters and seawater scrubbers in tanker inert gas systems
    • Metal instruments
    • Heat exchangers
    • Crude oil distillation towers
    • Propeller and pump shafts
    • Oil refinery crude columns
    • Pickling bat heating coils
    • Feedwater and steam generator tubing
    • Valves, pumps, fittings, and fasteners

At normal and elevated temperatures, Monel 400 resists corrosion from most salts, water, alkalis, organic substances, food products, and atmospheric conditions.
