Additionally, Tronix alloy provides EN40B Round Bar in round bar form in addition to EN40B Round Bar. Our alloy processing department utilizes thirty power saws and a fully automated magazine-feed CNC rod blanking line. Whatever quantity of material you require, we can cut it with efficiency.
Though EN40B Round Bar is manufactured from chromium-molybdenum nitriding steel, it is highly wear-resistant because it is well suited for nitriding. As well as offering high wear resistance, EN40B Round Bar also offers high shock resistance, toughness, and flexibility. EN40B Round Bar is also available in hardened and tempered condition ‘T.
EN40B is a chromium-molybdenum nitriding steel usually supplied in hardened and tempered condition, offering high wear resistance and good toughness and ductility. It is characterized by its suitability for nitriding, which can give a hard, wear-resistant core in the range of 61-65Rc.
The nitriding process produces a scale-free surface with minimal distortion. The relatively low temperature of the nitriding process produces components with a scale-free surface and minimum distortion. As the material is supplied in the hardened and tempered ‘T’ condition, EN40B has good toughness and flexibility.
A good combination of toughness and flexibility can be found in EN40B Round Bars. EN40B is an engineering steel that is high in strength and flexibility. It is made of chromium molybdenum nitriding steel that promotes high wear resistance through nitriding. The process of nitriding produces a surface that is scale-free and has very little distortion.
As a chromium-molybdenum-based engineering steel grade, EN40B (722M24) is often supplied in hardened and tempered conditions because of its excellent wear resistance and fatigue strength. The nitriding process is performed at a low temperature, resulting in a scale-free surface with minimal distortion. Nitriding produces a hard and wear-resistant casing resulting in good fatigue and shock resistance.
There is no loss in surface hardness of EN40B (722M24) in atmospheres up to 500°C before any loss in sensitivity is observed for EN40B (722M24). This nitriding steel also offers a good combination of flexibility and toughness. EN40B is ideal for applications requiring high tensile strength and creep resistance when supplied in the’ T’ condition. EN40B (722M24) has become a popular engineering material in the textiles, automotive, and aerospace industries. Additionally, billet crankshaft manufacturers use this material extensively when manufacturing their products.
This steel grade is a low-alloy steel grade commonly used for constructing components such as gears, axles, and crankshafts, all of which require high levels of strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance, as well as an excellent combination of strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance. It is not only known as 722M24 but also known as 40CrMoV4-6 and is usually sold as round bars.
EN40B round bars are generally available in a wide range of sizes and lengths, usually hot-rolled or cold-drawn. Generally, the bars are supplied in the annealed or normalized state, and they can be heat-treated to achieve a higher level of hardness and strength.
As well as carbon, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium, EN40B also contains carbon, manganese, and chromium, which are alloying elements that enhance the strength and toughness of the steel and its ability to resist wear and corrosion due to their alloying elements.
In automotive, aerospace, and engineering industries, where high-stress applications require strong and durable materials, EN40B round bars are commonly used for their strength and durability. When choosing EN40B round bars, several factors should be considered, including the application’s specific requirements, which include its strength, hardness, and machinability, as well as any relevant standards or specifications that may be relevant to the application.

WELDING
Even though this alloy has been successfully welded by common fusion and resistance methods, it is not recommended to be joined with oxyacetylene welding. AWS E/ER630 filler metal is recommended if it is required.
FORGING
It is recommended to soak for 1 hour at 2150F (1177C) before forging. If working below 1850F (1010C), a post-work solution treatment must be applied before final hardening.

The following are the key features:
- Nitriding steel
- High wear resistance
- Good toughness & ductility
- Supplied in the hardened and tempered ‘T’ condition
- Good shock resistance
Product Benefits
- High fatigue strength
- Good wear resistance
- Suitable for nitriding
- Good combination of ductility and toughness
- Supplied hardened & tempered (T condition)
- High tensile strength
- High creep resistance
Benefits Of Nitriding & Carburisin
Both heat treatments are thermomechanical and performed at low temperatures to minimize distortion. As a result of nitriding, a high surface hardness is achieved with excellent wear and galling resistance, while fatigue strength also increases as a result of nitriding. During a carburizing process, carbon is diffused into the surface of the steel to create a hard casing that is a thermomechanical heat treatment. By doing so, the overall efficiency of the system is increased.
It increases the strength of the material and increases the wear resistance of the material. I believe EN40B (722M24) is particularly well suited to both heat treatment types, resulting in a high strength, high wear resistance engineering steel that can be used in a variety of applications.
While welding EN40B (722M24) is not recommended, it can be machined using conventional machining methods and in accordance with the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the machine.
