Inconel 718 tubing is used in gas turbines, also known as combustion turbines, which are powered by internal combustion engines.
An important obstacle in the construction of a turbine is selecting a material that resists creep. In addition to offering good tensile, fatigue, creep, and rupture strengths, Inconel 718 is also an ideal metal for this application. As a result of both high temperatures and high stress, these turbines experience creep. As Inconel 718 is a high-strength alloy, the UNS N07718 tube can withstand temperatures up to 1300°F.
The nickel-based seamless tube, AMS 5590 Alloy 718, does not disappoint our clients with its efficient performance. AMS 5590 has been specified by SAE as a solution annealed alloy. Inconel 718 pipe is annealed at 1950°F and cooled rapidly in water afterward.
As these tubes are precipitation hardened for about 10 hours at 1400°F, the Inconel 718 tubes are furnace cooled to 1200°F. Aging then takes place at the same temperature for 20 hours.
In addition to having good oxidation resistance up to 1800°F, AMS 5589 Alloy 718 seamless tubing is suitable for fluid lines and components that are subject to stress rupture up to 1300°F.

Why Alloy 718 Tubes Used For Aerospace Components And Oilfield Applications?
The alloy 718 is a nickel-chromium alloy that could be precipitation hardened. It has very high creep rupture strengths at elevated temperatures of about 700 degrees Celsius. It is a high-strength alloy with high corrosion resistance properties. In addition to hardening, it could also be readily fabricated. It has a minimum tensile strength of 1100MPa and minimum yield strength of 980MPa which are both very high values. So the material is suitable to operate in cryogenic applications, aviation and aerospace, and other high-temperature services. Since oilfield applications can encounter highly corrosive content and high temperatures, alloy 718 is used in aerospace components and in oilfield applications.
