In welding at temperatures between 800°F and 1500°F, titanium added to the 321 stainless steel rods alloy reduces and prevents carbide precipitation. The titanium also improves the alloy’s properties at elevated temperatures.
Stainless Steel 321 Round Bar is a stabilized stainless steel grade, similar to grade 304. Welding rods made from stainless steel 321 are highly corrosion and oxidation resistant. Furthermore, the stainless steel 321 cold-drawn bar has high tensile strength and good creep resistance. Despite exposure to an aqueous medium, UNS S32100 Forged Bar tends to resist scale formation. The alloy is also resistant to aqueous corrosion.

It is a limitation of Stainless Steel 321 Hollow Bars that Titanium does not transfer well across a high-temperature arc. Therefore, AISI 321 Square Bar should be something other than a welding consumable. Grade 347 can be stabilized by adding niobium, but the metal can be transferred across an arc.
Like other austenitic grades, Stainless Steel 321 Threaded Bar is excellent for forming and welding. It is readily rolled and exhibits excellent welding characteristics. Post-weld annealing is not required for this alloy. Ss 321 Hex Bars are also adamant, even at cryogenic temperatures. This particular grade of stainless steel needs to polish better, so it is not recommended for decorative applications.

Corrosion Resistance
Grade F6NM offers considerable corrosion resistance to no-chloride environments.
Corrosion resistance can be improved by polishing the surface.

Grade F6NM is ferromagnetic.
Welding
Welding can be done by pre-heating to about 150°C.
BHeat Treatment:
Annealing
Annealing can be done between temperature ranges of 600-650°C, followed by air-cooling.
Hardening
Hardening can be attained by heating in the 1100 to 1150 °C temperature range, followed by quenching and tempering. Mechanical properties are improvised by quenching and tempering.

Compared to most martensitic grades of stainless steel, F6NM has better weldability and basic corrosion resistance.
Composition – 13% Cr, 4.0% Ni, 0.5% Mo, 0.05% C (EN and ASTM standards differ in chemical composition).
In this grade, you will find the following characteristics:
Basic corrosion resistance against pitting and crevices
Sulphide stress cracking resistance is moderate
Heat treatment determines minimum yield strength (520 to 800 MPa in EN standard)
There are only two martensitic grades with guaranteed sub-zero impact toughness in EN pressure standards.
In comparison with other martensitic grades, this grade welds well. Heat treatment is still required before and after welding
F6NM is a martensitic stainless steel with a number of important enhancements. Molybdenum adds corrosion resistance. The low carbon content improves weldability and, combined with nickel, increases toughness. This grade is primarily used in the oil and gas industry.
