317L Round Bar
304 and 304L Round Bar

Both AISI 316 stainless steel and AISI 317 stainless steel are iron alloys. They have a very high 96% of their average alloy composition in common. There are 33 material properties with values for both materials.

while Grade SS 316 can sustain under high cryogenic temperature and corrosive actions by chlorides etc. On the other hand Grade SS 317 is brought into the picture against extreme operating conditions of temperature and moisture that demand even higher performance characteristics in comparison with grades like SS 304 and SS 316. Though all these alloys share some similar characteristics but they do have difference in their respective chemical compositions.

As clearly noticed from the table above that in particular, the amount of metal Chromium, Nickel and Molybdenum varies in them from each other. Molybdenum is added in order to provide resistance against pitting corrosion from chlorides (pH<5), that’s why these grades are being used in chemical, gasoil refinery and marine industry to perform well in acidic environment. Moreover, Nickel add a number of properties to them like better formability, hot working, high strength ,welding ability and sustainability. Hence these elements (Ni, Mo), in turn, also enhances the cost of these grades in accordance with their increasing percentage content. SS 317 is most expensive among them whereas SS 316 is slightly expensive than SS 304.

SS 317 prove to be a good material in heat exchanger manufacture because it resists Galvanic Corrosion between the plates and the frame of the heat exchanger in a far better way than SS 304 and SS 316. The trend in PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) values also depicts the same superiority of SS 317 over SS 304 and SS 316. One can easily conclude by reading the table below that SS 317 is nearly 20% and 40% more resistant to pitting corrosion than SS 316 and SS 304 respectively.

With the support of our well-prepared infrastructure and assiduous workforce, we are capable of offering a wide array of Round Bars at value-powerful prices within the stipulated time frame.

Stainless Steel 317L Round Bar is an improved or modified version of marine grade stainless steel. A marine-grade steel is alloy 316, which contains less than 3% molybdenum. Stainless Steel 317L Round Bar’s alloy has been improved by adding more molybdenum and increasing the molybdenum content. As a result of the modification in its chemistry, it becomes tougher and stronger.

There is a significant improvement in the tensile strength and pitting resistance of Stainless Steel 317L Round Bars. While the PREN of alloy 317 is valued at 24.2, the same property of the Stainless Steel 317L Round Bar is valued at 29.7. The corrosion resistance properties also witness a significant improvement, wherein the ASTM A479 UNS S31703 hex bar can resist getting decayed in the presence of highly corrosive media such as acidic chlorine, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid. Similar to all low carbon version austenitic alloys, the astm a276 type 317L flat bar yields high quality weld.

There is a significant improvement in the tensile strength and pitting resistance of Stainless Steel 317L Round Barsad to intergranular corrosion. Thus, manufacturers prefer using the JIS SUS 317L black bar as they could be used in an as welded condition.

In contrast to grade 304, DIN 1.4438 square bars are somewhat resistant to chlorine related stress cracking. In media containing sulphur compounds, AISI 317L threaded bars exhibit better corrosion resistance than grades 316 and 304. The Stainless Steel 317L Round Bar also performs well when exposed to halogen-containing solutions.
